Our First Success Story!
Bodhi is an older horse who was abandoned by his owners because he had some dental issues and required specialized feeding. He was very underweight and had a lot of old wounds.
He was adopted by a local family, who worked with our vet to figure out how to feed him and gave him lots of love and attention. He's such a handsome boy now!
Meet the Horses in Our Sanctuary
Each of our residents has a unique spirit and story. Get to know the gentle souls who call Hózhó their home.
Aurora Skye
Aurora's mom was hit by a car on the Navajo Nation. Her mom couldn't walk and Aurora was still nursing. Tribal leaders tried to find her owner for almost a week, but ultimately had to put her down. It took us a few days to convince baby Aurora to leave her mom's body and come with us. It was heartbreaking, but she has adapted to life in the sanctuary and loves running around with her big sisters (see Horseplay below).
We got her during a rare sighting of the Aurora Borealis in the Four Corners area!

Takota was our first feral colt rescue. He got kicked out of his herd when his mom had a new baby and the stallion made him move on. He was wandering alone and didn't take too much convincing to join our herd.
He is shy, but curious and friendly! Takota means "friend to all" in Sioux.

Scarlett was found wandering alone by the San Juan River. She was very underweight and covered in gnats. We think her herd got rounded up and she was left behind. She warmed up to us pretty quickly and is now super friendly and too smart for her own good!
She is a great big sister to Aurora Sky.
